Gorilla trekking is one of the most uncommon activities one can do while on a safari in Uganda. Being critically endangered species, Mountain Gorillas are not only spectacular but legendary creatures that every world traveler should endeavor to explore.
With each step your anxiety builds and the reward of seeing the Mountain Gorillas in a destination where more than a half of their world population thrive is striking. Then, it’s the right time to know where to go for gorilla trekking in Uganda.
Uganda features two destinations where Mountain Gorilla trekking is carried out namely; Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park all in the south west of the country.
Bwindi National Park with minimum of 400 Mountain Gorillas is home to close to a half of their world population. Adventure lovers come for Uganda gorilla safaris from different corners of the world to enjoy this ultimate gorilla experience.
Thirteen (13) habituated families thrive in four (4) gorilla regions which include Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.
The gorilla region you are to track is indicated on the gorilla trekking permit. Its allocation will definitely depend on its availability as eight (8) persons are only allowed to trek each gorilla family per day.
Besides Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, gorilla trekking in Uganda can as well be carried out in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Gorilla trekking is the most breathtaking activity done in this park, and it is only Nyakagezi gorilla group that has been habituated for trekking here.
Gorilla tracking starts in the morning at 8am where the trekkers start off from Ntebeko gate after a briefing session by the rangers before heading out to encounter these unique apes in their habitats.
Move through the forests and hear the sweet sounds of birds in the trees, monkeys, and other animals, something that is simply memorable!
Truly, if you ever thought of trekking these gentle giants in African jungle, a gorilla safari in Uganda should be number one on your list of preferences.
