the virungasStanding in the extreme corner of south western Uganda, Sabyinyo Volcano – one of the famous Uganda safari products rises to 3,669m above sea level along with Muhavura at 4,127m and Gahinga at 3,474m adjoining the Mikeno, Visoke and Karisimbi volcanoes in Rwanda.

The Sabyinyo Volcano derives its name from the rugged peaks that were shaped by the denudation forces forming teeth like structures which the locals named old man’s teeth.

It is the third after Muhabura and Gahinga from the left hand side respectively offering impressive views for travellers on safari in Uganda.

The structure forms impressive ground for Volcano climbing as it contains a series of peaks with a swamp crater at the top which gives volcano climbers who resolve to undertake mountain climbing safari to Uganda a challenging and yet impressive encounter. The 14km round trip of Mount Sabyinyo takes about eight (8) hours.

The towering Volcanoes are viewed from the hills of Nkuringo in the south of Bwindi and on clear days, the peaks of volcanic ranges in Uganda and Rwanda are clearly seen offering distant opportunities for photography and scenic satisfaction to visitors on Uganda safari holidays.

The Sabyinyo Volcano is under the protection of Mgahinga National Park which is also known for gorilla trekking safaris and golden monkey tracking.
