The Uganda gorilla safari destination of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the second habitat of the critically endangered Mountain Gorillas in Uganda. The park is home to Nyakagezi gorilla group which is fully habituated for gorilla trekking experience.
Although known as the second Mountain Gorilla habitat, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is actually the only home of Golden monkeys in the whole of Uganda.
This makes this park a point of meet for these two rare primate species and hence the slogan ‘Mgahinga; where gold meets silver” with the later standing for silverback – the adult male gorilla.
World travelers on Primate Safaris in Uganda normally make extensions to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park after Chimpanzee trekking/habituation in Kibale National Park and gorilla trekking/habituation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park purposely to spend quality time with the habituated troop of golden monkeys.
Golden Monkeys also thrive in the neighbouring Rwanda and Congo forming one of the cross border tourism products explored on adventure vacation safari in Uganda Rwanda Congo.
On top of these two natural offerings, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park shelters three (3) of the eight Volcanic mountains that comprise the Virunga massif. These include; Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo which combine to offer a rewarding adventure mountaineering tour in Uganda. A round trip to any of the mountains can be done in one day.
Other Uganda tour products in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park include; Batwa heritage trail – a path to the legendary past of this hunter gather tribal group, birds and lush flora.
