Kenya Corona Virus Updates: April 1st 2020: First Coronavirus Patient in Kenya Leaves Hospital After Testing Negative Nairobi

Ivy Brenda Cherotich the patient who tested positive for coronavirus disease 22 days ago was today discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) isolation ward after she was declared free of the disease.

Brenda was confirmed to have the disease after her trip from the United States of America, has been receiving treatment from health workers at KNH facility.

Coronavirus patientSpeaking to the Head of State through a teleconference video call at Afya House today Brenda expressed her gratitude to God for the healing hand and the health workers for the support she has received while on treatment and urged all Kenyans to heed the Ministry of Health guidelines so as to defeat the disease.

She said ” I developed symptoms and l voluntarily went to the hospital as a responsible Kenyan and was confirmed positive and I have since been treated and discharged after 23 days in isolation.”She also urged Kenyans to avoid misinformation that is being peddled in various social media platforms and advised them to cultivate a positive attitude to support those who are affected.

Brenda was accompanied by Brian Orinda who was also released today from the same ward after recovery.

Orinda said he contracted the disease due to her close contact with Brenda.

He said he spend a total of 17 days at the isolation ward and he was discharged after testing negative for the disease.

The two held a virtual meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, in the presence of the health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and the Principal Secretary, Susan Mochache.
