This means the forest is home to 90% of all Albertine Rift endemics. Some bird species include; African Wood Owl, Handsome Francolin, Regal Sunbird, African green broadbill and many more.

Drier months are said to be the best months to visit Bwindi, but birders may prefer the wetter months for a higher chance of seeing more bird activity.

Within Bwindi National Park, Birding is conducted along the Buhoma Waterfall Trail, the bamboo zone as well as the Mubwindi Swamp trail within Ruhija.
