
Kasubi Royal TombsThe Kasubi tombs found on the kasubi hill were first built in 1881 and are also known as Ssekabaka’s tombs. This site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was declared in December 2001 and is the burial ground for the four (kings) kabakas of Buganda including Mutesa I (1865-1884), Daniel Mwanga II (1884-1897), Daudi Cwa II (1897-1939) and Frederick Mutesa II (1939-1966). The tombs were called Nabulagala but in 1882 it was changed to Kasubi by Mutesa I. These were buried in grass thatched dome- shaped hoses which were known as Muzibu Azaala Mpanga. The tombs occupy 27 hectares with structures of reed and ring demonstrating the 52 clans of Buganda Kingdom, there are long poles wrapped with backcloth and inside the houses you will find cultural and spiritual materials that give you a clear picture of Buganda Kingdom. It is also a religious shrine to the Buganda Kingdom and it is known for its unique traditional design and universal value. The tombs have attracted very many tourists who come to safari the cultural site and get more information about it.
