The Kahuzi-Biega National Park, also known as Parc National De Kahuzi-Biega is situated in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, 40 km away from the bustling town of Bukavu in southern Kivu province, at the south western boarder of Rwanda and is one of the outstanding Congo safari sites.

The park was established in 1970 to protect the world’s largest species of gorillas (Grauer’s Gorilla), and the destination has remained the premier refuge for these particular gorilla species in the world.

It derived its name from Mt. Kahuzi and Mt. Biega, the 2 magnificent dormant volcanoes towering to an altitude ranging between 3,308 to 2,790m meters.

Most birds in Kahuzi-Biega National Park are endemic to the Albertine Rift; some birds found here include the Rockefeller’s sunbird, Grauer’s broadbill, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, and Ruwenzori Turaco.
