4 Days Rwanda Mountain Climbing Safari Karisimbi Tour – DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY.

Day 1 of 4 Days Rwanda Adventure Safari: Transfer to Ruhengeri & do caves walk

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Ruhengeri in the northeast of Rwanda 116km about 3 hours’ drive from Kigali city. You will enjoy great sights en route of the Rwandan hillsides that have prompted great travelers to nickname it the land of a thousand hills. You will arrive in Ruhengeri early for Lunch and short relaxation after which you will embark on the cave walk. The caves walk is a rewarding activity that exposes you to the natural wonders of Rwanda. The caves of the Musanze are house-like structures that have existed for centuries past. They are known to have provided supply storage and refugee for the Kings of Rwanda during the times of war in pre-colonial Rwanda. Retreat from this activity overnight.

Day 2 & 3 of 4 Days Rwanda Adventure Safari: Climb the Karisimbi Volcano

Karisimbi Mountain adjoins the greater Virunga massif and is the highest point in Rwanda at 4,507m. First climbed in 1903, Climbing Karisimbi takes 2 days including ascending and descending. You will depart from the starting point early in the morning and head for this challenging active adventure activity. You will traverse the jungle in the lower slopes of Volcanoes and enjoy great sights of birds and primates like monkeys. The Dian Fossey site is also seen during the climb though it’s taken as an extra activity calling for an extra cost. You will camp at 3,700m overlooking Bisoke Volcano. The next day will expose you to a relatively steeper climb that leads you to the summit. The climb takes 2 hours and you will proclaim the summit of Karisimbi Volcano – the highest point in Rwanda. The summit draws you closer to the Democratic Republic of Congo border. Rest a bit and embark on a 6 hour descend to the starting point to mark the end of your 2 days actine adventure in Karisimbi.

Day 4 of 4 Days Rwanda Adventure Safari: Do Twin Lakes Walk & transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, you will embark on the walk to the twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera stretching to the scenic Rusumo falls. This will take you 3 – 4 hours and will see you trekking through the valleys carved in unique geographical splendor traversing the adjoining lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. A range of birds may be seen during this activity including; the long-crested eagle, African Marsh Harrier, Cinnamon-breasted Bee-eater, Grey-throated tit Paradise Flycatchers among others. Return from this activity for relaxation after which you will embark on the transfer back to Kigali city.
